In Blantyre, Malawi, a newborn baby girl recovers after being rescued from a pit toilet, where it is suspected she was dumped by her mother. The woman dumped the baby in the toilet abandoned by a local contractor on her way home from Lirangwe Health Center where she had given birth. Sources said a 15-year-old boy heard the baby crying on Wednesday, March 7, 2006 around 8 AM and rushed to his parents, who reported the matter to the police. Police rescued the baby and demolished the toilet. Police arrested the baby's mother and charged her with concealing birth. © 2006 Bonex Julius, Courtesy of PhotoshareThe Tools section of the Maternal and Neonatal Health Toolkit for Malawi offers downloadable forms and checklists in Microsoft Word and Excel to help with tracking and supervising Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) services as well as basic and comprehensive emergency and neonatal obstetric care.
