Mabrouk Initiatives

The Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD) registers about (66 thousand) marriage contracts annually, where newlywed couples head to issue their first Family Booklet (Daftar Al-A’ilah) through one of the (76) Civil Status and Passport Department’s Offices, spread Kingdom-wide.

Engaged and newlywed couples, comprise the main target group of the Family Planning Program; therefore, the “Jordan Health Communication Partnership” program, saw value in building a special partnership with the CSPD in order to reach out to this target group, through special messages that would encourage them to adopt new concepts in establishing their new families, and help them in overcoming the numerous health concerns during that phase, such as pregnancy, delivery, post-natal health, and newborn health care by providing them with the correct, accurate and credible information, that would enable these new families to select modern family planning methods that are most suited to their needs.

The partnership between Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs and the CSPD dates back to 2008 when the “Mabrouk” initiative was first designed for engaged and newlywed couples; and (75 thousand) “Mabrouk Packages” were distributed to this target group. Following the huge success of this initiative and continued requests by newlyweds for these “Mabrouk Packages”, another initiative was designed under the slogan “Mabrouk (Congratulations) You Became a Mom and Dad”. Another (75 thousand) packages were distributed to new parents at the issuance of the birth certificates of their firstborn, at any of the CSPD offices.
