In Mozambique, the Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) collaborated with the Ministry of Health to develop the first-ever national anemia counseling package for use by facility and community-based providers across the country. The process of developing these materials, including conducting a formative assessment, is described in the case study, “Development and Rollout of National Maternal Anemia Materials: Experience from Mozambique.”

The anemia counseling materials included:

1. Flipchart for group education sessions at the health facility and community levels

2. Poster for one-on-one counseling during antenatal and postnatal services

3. Iron Folic Acid supplement side effect algorithm to guide provider counseling on identification and management of side effects
