Selamawit Desta

PMA2020 | Senior Research Program Coordinator

Selamawit Desta is the Senior Research Program Coordinator for PMA2020. She provides programmatic and technical assistance to the project through the facilitation of in-country trainings and data collection activities in program countries. Selam also provides strategic communications support and coordinates the dissemination of PMA2020 data.  Selam has a Masters of Science in Public Health (MSPH) and a Certificate in Health Disparities from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Masters in International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University’s School of International & Public Affairs. In the past she has worked as a Research Utilization Intern at USAID’s Global Health Bureau, Office of Population and Reproductive Health in the Research, Technology & Utilization Division with Global Health Fellows Program. During her internship Selam had the opportunity to work alongside Peggy D’Adamo and Shawn Malarcher to develop the USAID Family Planning Resource Guide and also contribute to work on the High Impact Practices in Family Planning. Prior to her studies at Johns Hopkins Selam worked as a small business owner of a multi-faceted music business based in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. She also served as a Board Member on the Virgin Islands Community AIDS Resource & Education (VICARE, Inc.) a non-profit HIV/AIDS education, prevention and outreach organization, worked as a peer HIV/AIDS educator in Tanzania and has interned at several international and grassroots organizations.
