Peter Muchiri Ngatia

Amref International University

Prof. Peter Muchiri Ngatia is the Interim Vice Chancellor of the Amref International University. His main areas of expertise include: health systems strengthening; training of health workforce through innovative, mobile and online approaches; design and development of innovative curricula; HRH performance improvement; Leadership, Management and Governance of Health Training and Learning Institutions, health policy formulation; advocacy and research, among others.

Since joining Amref Health Africa 32 years ago, he has held several key positions, including Acting Director General, Director of Programmes, Country Director, Director of Training and Capacity Building and Chief Technical Advisor to Ministries of Health in Botswana, Uganda, Somalia, Rwanda and South Sudan.

Prof. Ngatia was honoured with the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) by The President of the Republic of Kenya for his contribution to Public Health and Community Health in Kenya and Africa in 2010.  He holds academic qualification in Rehabilitation Medicine (BSc in Occupational Therapy), Medical Education and Public Health (MEd in Medical Education and Public Health, and a PhD in Medical Education, Planning and Development) from the University of Alberta in Canada.
