Population Council | Biomedical Program Manager
Loreley Villamide-Herrera provides operational, management, and programmatic oversight for the basic science, microbicide, and clinical activities of the Council’s HIV and AIDS biomedical program. Working closely with the program’s vice president, director of biomedical HIV research, and head of pharmaceutical development, she is responsible for day-to-day administration, fundraising, and internal and external reporting and communications. Villamide-Herrera belongs to the HIV and AIDS program management team and serves as the program’s liaison to partners, advisory board members, and donors.
Villamide-Herrera has worked for the Population Council since 2001. She has conducted basic research on HIV biology, focusing on dendritic cell biology and the role of the immune system in HIV infection. Before joining the Council, she was a senior research technician in the laboratory of Nobel Prize recipient Ralph M. Steinman.
Villamide-Herrera has collaborated on peer-reviewed publications and holds an MA in molecular and cellular biology from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
