IntraHealth International | Senior Team Leader, Gender Equality and Health

As senior team leader for gender equality and health at IntraHealth International, Newman creates practical tools and methodologies to help decision-makers and leaders at all levels understand the challenges of gender inequality and what it means for the health workforce.

Newman has over 25 years of experience in health and development programs all over the world. She conducts research on gender discrimination in the health workforce in Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Kenya, and she helps organizations use results to promote equal opportunity and gender equality at work. She has been an advisor to national governments and nongovernmental organizations on evaluation, research, policy, and gender equality. Newman is currently advising a project on gender-based violence in Mongolia led by the Asia Foundation.

As an adjunct professor of maternal and child health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Newman is now working to integrate gender into global public health schools in North Carolina. She currently serves as chair of the Triangle Global Health Consortium’s Gender Working Group.

Newman provides consulting services on gender training, technical leadership, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, research related to gender equality in health systems, and response to gender-based violence.
