Agbonkhese Oaiya

Agbonkhese Oaiya is experienced in both Information and Communication Technology and Public Health. In 2010, he graduated from the University of Lagos with a BSc. (Education) in Electrical/Electronic Technology. He later started and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science from the same institution before pursuing a Master’s in Public Health with the Peoples Open Access Education Initiative.

More recently, Agbonkhese has been focused on strengthening the Government of Nigeria’s health systems, where he oversaw the deployment and continued ICT technical support and sustainability of state-level Health Information Systems in six states of the federation—Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross-river, Lagos, Rivers, and Nasarawa—collaborating with key stakeholders and funders. He also supported the development of the Nigeria National Health Workforce Registry policy and prototype, and championed the deployment of registration and licensing Health Information Systems in professional health regulatory councils: Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, and Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria.

Previously, he was an ICT network team member with the Google University Access Project (GUAP), Eko-konnect, Datasphir Solutions, and the University of Lagos. During this time, he was involved in building a number of sustainable and reliable ICT research and educational networks, led a number of capacity-strengthening seminars, and championed the implementation of e-learning applications in supported educational institutions.

A Manchester United fan, Agbonkhese currently lives in Abuja, Nigeria.
