What is eLearning?
eLearning uses technology to create a virtual classroom where learners from any location can access information and learn about a new topic, guidance or project. eLearning is often referred to as electronic learning, distance learning or virtual learning.

Effective eLearning enhances the learning environment, disseminates knowledge to diverse audiences, and engages participants more efficiently and cost effectively than traditional approaches. The focus of eLearning is on knowledge transfer rather than skills building. Learners can access courses or programs when it is most convenient for them and complete courses at their own pace—an ideal situation for busy professionals. eLearning also can be cohort-based and developed in conjunction with a traditional classroom course where instructor and participants can engage with one another in real-time.

eLearning is a mechanism that can expand the reach of your organization's information. Through eLearning, information can be transferred to more people than traditional trainings allow.

Would you like to participate?

K4Health currently offers several eLearning courses focused on imparting knowledge to a wider base than traditional in-person trainings allow. Current course offerings are free, easy to access anywhere in the world, and available around the clock. Start learning now!

USAID Global Health eLearning Center: The Global Health eLearning Center offers a menu of courses, inlcuding new PEPFAR-related courses and soon will be offering certificate tracks, that learners can use to expand their knowledge in key public health areas, and to access important up-to-date technical information that USAID staff, USG staff, implementing partners, and other public health professionals should know.

K4Health eLearning: The K4Health eLearning Platform offers an engaging course on online communities of practice (CoPs). CoPs provide a virtual space for people who share a common interest and are working towards a shared goal. This course aims to give the learner an overview of online CoPs, including the uses, benefits, and challenges of creating and maintaining CoPs.

Our exciting and innovative collaborative tools provide both learners and authors the space to further increase knowledge exchange through eForums and learning activities. You can also suggest a course topic you would like to see covered! Just contact the team at virtualexchange@k4health.org.

How can eLearning help you?

eLearning appeals to the distinct learning styles of auditory learners, visual learners, and kinesthetic learners and is an efficient approach to reach a global audience.

Some of the many uses of eLearning include:

  • Providing continuing education for professionals interested in health issues;
  • Keeping learners up-to-date on state-of-the-art technical content on key public health topics;
  • Demonstrating how learners can apply evidence-based information to real-life situations;
  • Supplementing existing training programs or replacing expensive training methods; and
  • Orienting new hires on agency or donor guidelines.

Are you ready to create an eLearning course?

The K4Health Project is eager to help you create courses that combine technical content with program principles, best practices, and case studies. We provide the following services to help field programs and local organizations meet the growing demand for timely and evidence-based knowledge:

  • Convert existing material into formats appropriate for eLearning courses;
  • Develop customized platforms to host eLearning courses;
  • Train course authors to create their own courses;
  • Work with organizations and teach staff to build their own eLearning courses and platforms;
  • Work with organizations to train staff to create and manage virtual communities of practice for mentorship opportunities following eLearning courses; and
  • Integrate eLearning and communities of practice (CoP) and eForums.
