Sino-implant (II)® Implants

Sino-implant (II) is a subdermal contraceptive implant manufactured in China by Shanghai Dahua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. It has an annual pregnancy rate below 1%. The product is composed of two thin, flexible, silicone rods, each containing 75 mg levonorgestrel (a synthetic form of the hormone progestin). These are inserted under the skin of a woman's arm or thigh by a trained health care provider. Sino-implant (II) is currently labeled as effective for four years. It has the same amount of active ingredient and mechanism of action as Jadelle. Sino-implant (II) is at least 60% lower in cost than other contraceptive implants procured by international donors and NGOs.

FHI is leading the effort to ensure a safe and sustainable introduction of Sino-implant (II) in resource-constrained countries, in coordination with the manufacturer and many other partners. Pharm Access Africa Ltd., for example, is securing the approval of local drug regulatory authorities in 11 African countries.

The Sino-implant (II)-specific resources provided below are located throughout the toolkit and are provided here for easy access.
