Jean Fairbairn
EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries), Public Library Innovation Programme | Communication Coordinator
Jean Fairbairn works with the EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP). EIFL-PLIP supports public and community libraries in developing and transition countries to design and implement innovative services that promote community development across a range of issues – health, agriculture, social inclusion, employment, open government and support for vulnerable children and youth. Jean has an academic background in development communications and over 20 years experience in the development sector, working with small institutions that disseminate information – including local independent radio stations, community newspapers and public and community libraries. She has played different roles: trainer, grant-maker, writer, project manager, evaluator and mentor. She has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by small organizations working in developing and transition countries, and believes deeply in the power of local and participatory communication in contributing to social change.
